A similar thing happened where I live when a beautiful orchard with trees of great heritage was bulldozed. Despite many objections planning was passed - no doubt ensured with a bung in the right places from the developer.
It was heartbreaking to see the wildlife displaced and, on a personal note, I missed seeing my dog rolling around in rotten apples & plums. Smelled like shite to me but to him it was Dolce & Gabanna pour homme !

Sustrans are a law unto themselves, ripping up hedgerows & laying mile after mile of concrete - both environmentally unfriendly. A 'charity' they may be but they're ruthless when it comes to getting their own way.

I lost my dog in february after 16 fab years. Enjoy yours and whats left of green fields before some sodding developer builds on it... more flats !

Not in a philosophical sense Rust, but it does take away from your specific angle of accusation in your third paragraph.

But like Super Ted I'm waiting to read you take on Galloway's resignation!

The hedgerow was not part of the village green claim, as your well know.

The planning permission for that section had already been granted, and as such Rowntrees were well within their rights to start clearance on that land, before the farcical village green appeal had reached a conclusion.
